The answer is Yes and No.
Social networking has become a phenomenon that many people are involved in. It is interesting to know that even famous celebrities such as President Obama, Actor Ashton Kutcher and many others use twitter and facebook to connect to their fan following.
As an Internet marketer you need to determine whether you are actually benefiting from social networking or whether you are wasting your precious time.
You can use social networking sites to promote your business effectively or literally spend all day hanging out in them with actually doing nothing much for your busines.
Because many Internet business owners start out on a part time basis they are limited in the amount of time available to build their business.
You need to be careful that you do not fall into the trap of hanging around in social networking sites thinking you are actually making money.
It is possible to get addictive to social networking rather than focusing on your business. If done incorrectly social networking can be harmful to your business.
There is a certain skill in doing social networking for profit. It is a great way to connect and spread word about your business.
Building trust and credibility is very much a part of a successful business. You can do social networking to brand yourself and your business as something reliable.
The key to doing social networking for the benefit of your business is to budget your time and use it effectively when trying to advertise and promote online.
By doing it this way you will always know when it is time to get out of the social networking sites and work on another part of your business.
This way you are in control and when you are working on the Internet you will focus on the task at hand.
Social networking is a great way to connect with people. By doing social networking you can find prospective clients and customers who are interested in your business.
Nice post,
I agree that social networking has become a very important part of business today. However, it’s important to not forget the other aspects of marketing as well
Keep up the good work
John
Good post, I have yet taken full advantage of social networking as I do not feel I have the time to add it into my schedule. Instead I put my time into article marketing, hopefully as my schedule adjusts I will be able to add it in.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for stopping by. Social networking sites also allow you to post your links in the profile column. This adds backlinks to your website. And you know backlinks are a great search engine bait

Social networking can be a very good low cost (free) way to drum up some extra business. However, it seems that many business owners become obsessed with SN, forgetting that it is one small part of online marketing. If you can manage to fit it in, and not let it take over your time, it can be a very useful tool. I myself spend maybe 10 minutes total on SN each day, and have seen my website traffic increase dramatically.

Hi!
I think social networking is a great way to mix business with pleasure. However, I find I have to be disciplined as I can end up chatting rather than working. Great post!

I agree that social networking can work for your business, but you need to approach it in the right way. It needs to be a combination of social interaction and professional business promotion. One without the other probably won’t work. People are more interested in people than they are in your products – once they are interested in you, then they will look at your product.

Yes Ros, Just a few days ago, Bill Gates had to quit one of his social networking sites because too many people wanted to be his friend
Social networking is powerful if done correctly.
BTW, I believe Mr. Gates had to quit social networking because it prevented him from focusing on his priorities.

Hi Lian,
Great post. Social media marketing when used properly can build much more traffic and clients, as compared to other marketing methods by educating and informing the consumer over time.
