How To Setup And Promote Your Website Using Your Email Signature

Setting up a signature file in Hotmail is pretty straightforward too. You can setup your signature file by simply following the instructions provided. After logging in to your account, click on “Options” in the top right corner of the web page window, then click on “More Options” and you will find a list of options. Scroll down to “Customize your mail” and click”Personal email signature”. Enter your signature text in the box, click on “Save” and your signature file is done and ready to be used.

Setting up a signatue file for Gmail is even easire. After you have logged into your account, click on the “Settings” link in the top right corner of the browser page. Clicking on “Settings” will take you to the settings page where you will find a “Signature” box. Type your signature into the box, click the radio button next to the text box that says “Signature” and not the marked “No Signature”. Now click “save changes” and you are done.

So now you know how to set up an email signature file, let us discuss here are a few tips on writing the signature itself.

1. Keep your signature short and sweet. Remember it is a signature and not a promotional prose. An ideal one has no more than three or four lines of text and a link to the page you wish to promote.

2. Offer an incentive for the reader to click through to your website. A freebie offer of some sort – an e-book, piece of software, free ticket or voucher and so on are effective and attractive.

3. Use full and complete URLs, starting from http:// so that readers will be able to click the link. Avoid cut and paste, or manually type it into their browser, that is probably not going to happen. Your readers are lazy and want the easiest possible way. So make it easy for your reader to get to your website with a single click.

4. Use plain text to keep it simple.

5. Put your signature right at the foot of your name. People should be able to associate your signature with you as the sender.

Another effective way of using signature file for promotional purpose is to add signatures to your autoresponder mail and to your forum posts and your website pop accounts.
